Lifespan of an Ego

April 26, 2016

The big event here is a Retrograde Station of asteroid Lachesis (Lak’-e-sis) on 28 April.  The Mythological Lachesis was one of the three Fates, the one who measured the span of a Life.  I’m guessing you’ve recently been busy revising your estimates of how long you may Live.

In this Shadow Period (the span of a Retrogradation) between 22 Sagittarius and 4 Capricorn that lasts until early August, Lachesis backs over Quaoar (Law-Giver), Pholus (Responsibility), the Galactic Center (Headquarters) and Ixion (Abandoned Genius).  It’s already crossed them once, and it will cross them thrice before we’re done.  The first crossing is called a “Can-Opener” because it often opens a Can of Worms you hadn’t been thinking about.

  • The Lachesis-Ixion Can-Opener occurred on 27 February.  We were probably looking at Limitations in our Lives and Wondering how to Overcome them.
  • The Lachesis-Pholus Can-Opener happened on 11 March, and was probably about Realizations that we can no longer ignore certain Self-Sabotaging elements in our approach to Life.
  • The Lachesis-Quaoar Can-Opener was 18 March.  That was probably about revising our estimations of how long we can Survive on this Planet – collectively and individually – without extreme Changes to our Lifestyle and to our basic attitude toward the Soul of the Planet,

Check your journals.  The involvement of the Galactic Center makes these reconsiderations a great deal more consequential than they otherwise would be.  This section of the Zodiac – the end of Sagittarius – has been lit up strongly for several years, and not by accident.  This is the Scorpio zone (“Duad” in astrologuese) of Sagittarius, and the message is very clearly

What is it that I need to Let Go of, but which I’m clinging to so tightly?

It’s past time, Change is afoot, and your old approach won’t work any more, no matter how well it’s served you over the years.  Ask yourself that question, and reconsider the answer you’ve already rejected.  Or, if that’s not clear as a bell, omit the question mark and make it a Wondering, surrendering the question to your Intuition.  That’s a better approach anyway.

The Bottom Line is that it IS possible for us to reboot our Civilizations.  But we have to Listen to what’s really going on instead of gripping our Denial, we need to be Proactive about the Changes we need to make, and we need to Respect one another’s Unique Contributions, Trusting that their Intuition is correct for them, no matter how dumb it looks to us.  We look just as dumb to them, and ALL Contributions are necessary.

We could easily encounter major Ego Deaths here.  Remember to translate “It feels like I’m DYING!” to  “It feels like I’M dying.”  We cannot differentiate between “us” and our Ego – Ego Are Us.  So of course an Ego Death feels like a Physical Death.  But you’ll have thousands of Ego Deaths for every Physical Death, and the faster you can recognize that happening, the sooner you can begin constructively building a new Ego.  They aren’t optional.

When we talk about Ego we aren’t talking about being Selfish or Self-Absorbed.  We’re talking about our basic Survival Instinct.  We need enough Selfishness and Self-Absorption to keep ourself Safe, and to make sure that we always see ourselves as Worthy of Safety and Survival.  Those are critical distinctions; whenever you sense any Unworthiness in yourself around Safety and Survival, it’s a red flag to get Selfish and Self-Absorbed.  It’s not optional.

Lachesis has been within one Degree of its Station – in other words, basically Standing Still and therefore Strong – since 10 April.  If you aren’t a different person now than you were on 9 April, you will be soon.  Take it as an Opportunity.

Mercury is also turning Retrograde on 28 April.  It backs over asteroid Vesta (Unconscious Beliefs), giving us the opportunity to become Aware of our Limiting Beliefs.  Awareness is a prerequisite to Change.  Mercury’s Shadow Period is 15-24 Taurus and 28 April-22 May.  This section of Taurus (Scorpio through Aquarius Duads) is about re-examining what we’ve been Creating, and adapting it to the Good of All.  We can no longer afford Competition, lest we All go down fighting with one another.  Everything we do must now be Collaborative, and directed toward Sustainability.

Fateful Full Moon

April 20, 2016

There are three big themes to the 21 April Full Moon (10:30pm PDT) – Transitions, Fate, and Truth.

  • Transitions because the Full Moon occurs on a Cusp between two Signs – a place of Change, Transformation, often Contradistinction.
  • Fate because the asteroid Moira – Fate – Motivates (T-Squares) it.  Fate and Free Will are of course a Duality, an Either/Or, an Intellectualization.  Real Life is Both/And.  How can anything be Both/And when they’re Opposites? Well, if that’s upsetting to you, the answer is in your hand – you’ve shifted into Emotion – Cusps again, the Cusps between modalities of Perception.  You could also have shifted into Body or Spirit.  Either/Or is a characteristic of mind, and though we’re trained to Believe that mind is bigger than the Universe, in Real Life the Universe is much bigger than mind.
  • Truth because both of the Truth asteroids – Aletheia (Greek) and Veritas (Roman) adjoin the Sun.  Which brings us back to the larger theme of Removing our Masks.

Let’s focus on the Cusps…

  • The Moon itself is on the Cusp of Scorpio.  Here we Change from intellectually and Creatively contemplating the new-found concept of Other (Not-I, including Other People), to intense Emotional Curiosity about Other.  Does Other really exist, or is that just a Mirror?  Does the Other Side really exist, or is it just a Projection?
  • The Sun is on the Cusp of Taurus, along with the asteroids Aletheia, Veritas, and Atropos.  Atropos is Responsible for enforcing the measure of length of Life – another form of Truth.  At the Cusp of Taurus we shift from Making Things Up, to Casting them in Stone.  The Edge between what may or may not be Fantasy, and what the Muggles would consider “Real.”  Natural-born Chemists think it’s Matter that’s Real, while natural-born Physicists know that it’s Energy that’s Real.  Yes, I do take sides, though of course it’s Both/And.
  • The asteroid Moira – Fate – sits on the Cusp of Aquarius, as do we.  Sit on the Cusp of the Age of Aquarius I mean.  Here we move from hard-nosed down-to-Earth Pragmatism, to Idealism, or Idolatry.  Notice anybody worshipping Sacred Cows or Golden Calfs?  Such as Power, or Profit?

All together eight of the twelve Cusps are involved in the Full Moon.  If we’re worried that our Fate is to contemplate Truth and Compassion (if Other is a Mirror, we better find Compassion!), the other five Cusps each provide alternate paths that are easier than that one.

  • Our first Escape Route is the Cusp of Capricorn (where reside the dwarf planets Quaoar and Hylonome), where we Change from Letting Go of difficulties, to actually having to try to Resolve them.  (Quaoar-Hylonome tells us that if we want to Survive, we need to Molt, shed our old Ego and Open Up to the new.)
  • The Cusp of Pisces is our second path to higher ground.  Here we’re fairly rudely dumped from drinking beer and discussing grand schemes for solving the problems created by the existence of Other, to having to Feel the Realities that arise because of the existence of Other.  (On this Cusp we find the asteroids Pallas and Lachesis, and the dwarf planets OR10 and Nessus, reminders that a Life in the realm of Matter is a Privilege and a Deep Mystery, and one which has well-defined Boundaries.)

The last three Cusps are about Curiosity (Quincunxes to the Sun or Moon).

  • The asteroids Ceres (Sustainability) and Mnemosyne (Memory) decorate the Cusp of Aries.  Buddhists say that if you immerse yourself in the Water (Emotion), you’ll come out in the Fire (Spirit), and this is the place where you’ll come out.  I Wonder where these Memories will lead me.
  • The asteroid Karma is parked on the Cusp of Gemini.  On this Cusp we go from being Trapped in Stone, to being Liberated, free to walk around and Be whomever we want to Be.  I Wonder how we could ever find a more perfect place for Karma.
  • Finally, the Cusp of Libra is where we find the dwarf planet Makemake (Manifestation).  At the Cusp of Libra we’ve just finished an unpleasant-feeling period of Ego Transformations, and we’re ready to test our new Selves out on Other People.  I Wonder how I’ll be received.

Adventures in Consciousness!

Heavy II

February 22, 2016

The other big Configuration in the cluster near the Midpoints of the Signs is a Yin Gate in 22-25 Degrees.  There’s a nice picture and description of a Yin Gate in https://astrobuss.wordpress.com/2014/06/13/full-moon-yin-gate-and-portal-7-5-15/ .  A Yin Gate represents an Initiation into Mystery, embodied by the Central Opposition, the one with Yods to both ends of it.  The Central Opposition in the current Yin Gate is Vesta-Eris in Aries to Haumea in Libra…

The Central Issue here is…

Becoming Aware of the Limitations imposed on our Life by our Unconscious Beliefs.

We normally have very good reasons for keeping Unconscious Beliefs repressed, though the reason could be as simple as we’re too busy or too lazy to rework our entire approach to Life just because a few pieces don’t fit together well.  The folks at the Tea Parties carrying “Government Keep Your Hands off my Medicare” come to mind.  Or the poor saps who don’t realize that “Making American Great Again” means making it Great for the billionaires.

Often though it’s about not wanting to face down our Held Emotions – the situations that we in one Body or another endured and never want to revisit.  As we mentioned in the previous Heavy I post, those could well be coming up this week.  We can look for more clues in the “Subsidiary Issues” which we elaborated in https://astrobuss.wordpress.com/2014/06/20/the-second-harmonic/ ), but first, getting our Limiting Beliefs pulled up by the Roots is only half of the Central Issue.  The other half is a…

Rebirth of our Social Self and the way we Relate to the Outside World.

We can dig for more information about that in the Sabian Symbol, “The sight of an autumn leaf brings to a pilgrim the sudden revelation of the Mystery of Life and Death.”  I don’t think Elsie used “Pilgrim” in the same way that John Wayne did.  My guess is that rather than thinking “That Asshole!” about a fellow Pilgrim who doesn’t Behave the way Mom said every decent person should, we might think, “Whoa, that poor Bloke has probably Lived through the same sort of Nightmares I have.”

The Subsidiary Issues provide reinforcement and background, but not a lot of Insight.  They’re

  • The Threat of being Overwhelmed when our Held Emotions well up in our throat ( South Node in Pisces ) versus Allowing our Ego to be Overhauled to reorient our Life toward our Deepest Desires ( North Node in Virgo ) and
  • Actions Motivated by Fear of Loss ( Sedna in Taurus ) versus Actions Motivated by a Deep Intuitive Understanding of Context ( Mars in Scorpio )

But now, this is a Yin Gate, which means that the two Subsidiary Issues are bound together with a Great Deal of Grace ( the Golden Rectangle ), so they complement and educate one another.  The Trines indicate Dumb-Luck Grace between Fear and Desire (which would appear to suggest that it might be a good time to Face Down our Fear), and between Karma and Action.  What sort of Action?  That’s suggested by the Sextiles, in this case Action in Pursuit of our Mission, or in Pursuit of our current picture of our Mission – namely our Deepest Desires.

The Goddess is no Dummy; she encoded our Mission into our Deepest Desires, so there’s no way we could possibly forget it.  Motivation from the intellect is fine, as far as it goes.  But it doesn’t have nearly the Power and Persistence as Motivation from the Heart or the Gut or the Groin.  We were just Programmed to Believe that those kinds of Motivations were Silly or Stupid or Uncivil.  We were easy to Program because that’s what our Held Emotions told us anyway.  Which is just another way of saying that’s what we’re doing this week, examining our Programming and our Vulnerability to it.

Then there are the Dos Equiis, the four Curiosities, where the Universe is advising us to eschew Analysis and substitute Wonder.  These are…

  • I Wonder how my Unconscious Beliefs have warped my Deepest Desires
  • I Wonder how my Beliefs have constrained my Actions
  • I Wonder how Fear of Loss Limits my social interactions
  • I Wonder how my Held Emotions have warped my social interactions

These are Mysteries.  If your mind jumps at the chance to provide simple Answers to these Musings, thank it for Contributing and change the wording.  For instance, if it’s obvious to you how your Fear of Loss Limits your social interactions, change it to “I Wonder what would happen to my Social Life if my Fear of Loss was assuaged,” or something else that triggers your Imagination rather than your intellect.

At mid-month, this Configuration was not just a Yin Gate, but also a Flying Yoda, with a Kite stretched across the Golden Rectangle, topped by Haumea, and with T-Squares to each corner-to-corner Opposition in the Golden Rectangle.  We talk about Flying Yodas in https://astrobuss.wordpress.com/2015/12/04/orcus-ii/ , but in that essay I don’t think we mentioned the embedded Yin Gate or the T-Squares.

The picture in https://astrobuss.wordpress.com/2015/03/30/very-busy-march-31/ shows the tailed Flying Squirrel, and actually, if we moved Ceres a few degrees forward, Mercury-Juno-Makemake-Ceres-Mercury would trace out a Golden Rectangle and enclose a Yin Gate.  (That’s a hypothetical; Mercury would be likely to move forward four times faster than Ceres.)  The T-Squares in that picture would be Pallas on Mercury-Opposite-Makemake, and Mars on Juno-Opposite-Pallas.

At the moment we have only a one-armed Flying Yoda, since the other arm was formed by Klotho and Sappho.  Klotho-Sappho (cutting a new Fabric for Life based on Singing the Praises of Love) is a great arm for a Haumea Kite to have, and not only can we easily conceive that the full Flying Yoda has provided a continuing Blessing, but any projects born around mid-February will certainly receive that Blessing.

The persisting arm of the Flying Yoda is Ixion, another fabulous Blessing.  If you didn’t notice the aroma of our Abandoned Genius in the earlier discussion of Programming and Desire, you might want to re-read it.  It’s quite a “coincidence” that Ixion occupies a Ray of the Grand Trine, because while we didn’t name it that, the Ixion Discovery chart contains a full Flying Yoda, focused on Ixion itself!  See https://astrobuss.wordpress.com/2015/03/23/ixion/ .

We’ll be able to bring our Abandoned Genius home here as well, as Grace surrounds it and connects it to our Rebirth.
