Let’s explore the 2007 OR10 “Discovery” chart a bit more. Both “OR10” and Neptune are very strong between 14 and 19 October, so though we’ll have to “subtract” the influence of Neptune from our Experience, it’ll be an excellent opportunity to learn about this important new, and still formally unnamed, dwarf planet. Without a name – which we consider to be “coincidentally” associated with the planet’s influence in our Psyche, we have to depend upon its Discovery chart, its flavor in our natal charts, and our Experience when it’s lit up by dancing with other planets. The major events which occupied the news when it was discovered are also important. It’s interesting for instance that the first iPhone hit the Apple Stores two weeks later. Climate Change began to be taken seriously, and the Derivatives Crash began.
We’ve already averred that we consider it to be about Becoming Conscious of our Unconscious Beliefs, and certainly the Unconscious Expectation of Privilege that Climate Change and the Derivatives Crisis disrupt, fit that interpretation very well.
We arrive at that interpretation because of what we consider to be the most important segment of its Discovery chart – most important because it includes OR10 itself, one corner of a Grand Sextile. We mentioned earlier (November II) that…
“Concentrating on the portion of the chart that includes OR10 itself, the dominant feature is a T-Square and Diamond Star focused on the Stellium of Vesta, Pholus, and Hylonome – Taking Responsibility for Unconscious Beliefs and Grieving the concomitant Loss of Identity. The base of the T-Square is the Opposition from OR10 to Moon-Venus. The base of the Finger of God that completes the Diamond Star is the Sextile from Mercury to the Centaur Asbolus (Intuition). In addition, Pluto and a Lilith-Chariklo Conjunction complete a Grand Sextile. The Vacancy Opposite the Vesta-Pholus-Hylonome Stellium is 1 Gemini, ‘A glass-bottomed boat reveals undersea wonders: The revelation of unconscious energies and submerged psychic structures.’ “
Saturn is weakly Conjunct Moon-Venus. We can “blame” the iPhone on the presence of Saturn and Mercury in the Grand Sextile if we want, Saturn because for many people the iPhone is not just a communication device but an indispensable aid for organizing their Lives. While the iPhone is only part of it, the Loss of Privacy that it ushers in, as we live-stream our Lives to Others, is indeed part of the concomitant Loss of Identity, though many people seem to Celebrating more than Grieving that.
We’ve also commented on the emphasis on the Magnetic in this segment of the chart, with Asbolus (Intuition), and Moon-Venus and Lilith-Chariklo Conjunctions, making up half of the Grand Sextile.
Some introductory vital statistics… 2007 OR10 is a little over half as big as Pluto and Eris, and in distance and orbital period it resembles Eris. Pluto’s orbit spans 29-49 “AU” (an “Astronomical Unit,” the distance from the Sun to Earth), Eris’s 38 to 98, and OR10’s 33-101. Pluto takes 247 years to loop once, Eris 558 years, OR10 546 years. Pluto’s orbit is inclined 17 Degrees off of the plane of the big planets, Eris’s 45 degrees, and OR10’s 30 Degrees. OR10 was discovered at 1 Degree of Pisces (“In a crowded marketplace farmers and middlepersons display a great variety of products“), and it will remain in Pisces for the rest of this Century. So we can think of it as symbolizing Becoming Conscious of our Unconscious Idealism during the last two thirds of the 20th Century while it was in Aquarius, Becoming Conscious of our Unconscious Pragmatism in the first third of the 20th Century when it was in Capricorn, and Becoming Conscious of our Unconscious Emotions – and how they Sabotage us – during the current Century. We can easily equate that with what we’ve often called The Death of Karma. From the Perspective of OR10, it will be a bit into the 22nd Century before Huperity Becomes Conscious of our Unconscious Spirituality.
There are several other significant segments in the OR10 Discovery chart; we’ll cover them in subsequent articles.
A note on how new planets and other planet-like bodies are named. When a new object is first discovered, it’s assigned what is essentially an ordinal; 2007 OR10 means it was Discovered in the second half of July (“O”) 2007, and was the 170th new object tallied in that period (if we omit “I” and “Z” then “R” is the 17th letter of the alphabet; 17 x 10 = 170). 2007 OR10 may sometimes appear as 2007O10R to indicate that it was the “tenth R” in period 2007-O. Weird, eh?
At any rate, once enough is known about the object’s orbit, it gets a number in another, more official catalog. OR10’s official minor planet number is 225088. So you might sometimes find it under “225088 2007 OR10” or simply “225088.” Once it gets a name, it’s official designation will be 225088 NAME, and the 2007 OR10 moniker will slip into history. Officially, the “10” is a subscript, but it’s often written in normal text. You don’t need to know about the numbering, whether OR10 is the 170th or 183rd planetoid detected in late July 2007.
But you may need to know about the other elements, because when you’re trying to look up this planetoid on the internet or in an ephemeris, you might find it under any of those names. You might find it under “2007 OR10” or “225088” or “225088 2007OR10” or “225088 2007 OR10” or “225088 2007O10R,”or, once it gets a name, “225088 NAME” or “NAME.” Not all search engines are as forgiving as Google or Bing. Sometimes you’ll have to try every combination before you find what you’re looking for. We’re using “OR10” as our shortcut name here, but recognize that there’s also a 2006 OR10, a 2008 OR10, etc., and those are different planetoids.
